YASC

The Episcopal Church's
Young Adult Service Corp

What is YASC?
The Episcopal Church's Young Adult Service Corp (YASC) is a ministry for young adults interested in exploring their faith by living and serving in the Anglican Communion as missionaries around the globe. A total of 36 young adults from the United States were invited to the Discernment Weekend in February 2015. Out of the 36, a total of 21 have committed to spend the following year (beginning end of summer 2015) abroad, working as missionaries for the Episcopal Church.

Why have I decided to do YASC?
Religion is rather new in my life, I have been a part of the Episcopal Church for about five years now through St. Thomas and the Diocese of Delaware. I have spent this time searching for myself through God with the help of the Episcopal Church. But it is as though that the more answers I find, the more questions I seem to have.

The more I learn more about the Anglican Communion and its elements, the more I feel called to do God's work. I'm young, in my early 20s, and am not quite sure where my life is headed or what God has in store for me next. I do know that I want to continue exploring this call to God and his work and what better way for me to do so than to spend a year abroad as a missionary? Working hand-in-hand with my brothers and sisters, preaching the Gospel by doing rather than by speaking.

I have faith that spending a year as a missionary through YASC and the Episcopal Church will give me a clearer idea of what God is calling me to do.

What will I be doing?
I will be partnering with the Diocese of Costa Rica, working at Hogar Escuela. Hogar Escuela is a childcare founded by the Diocese over 50 years ago. They serve children of single mothers in one of the country's poorest neighborhoods, Barrio Cuba. I will have the honor of working as the school’s ESL (English as a Second Language) Program Coordinator. I hope to be able to extend and strengthen their educational opportunities by providing them with the connection to learn English.

As a current ESL teacher in Delaware, I am very excited to have the opportunity to work in the education field while abroad. I believe that having the ability and love for teaching is one of the most inspirational gifts God has blessed me with. I look forward to working with the Diocese of Costa Rica, Hogar Escuela, the community of Barrio Cuba, the families, and especially the children. I hope to be able to take what I have learned the last few years teaching in the United States and apply it abroad.

How can you help with my mission?
I ask for your contribution and support through prayer and if you are able, financially. All is appreciated, nothing is too little as I have to raise a total of $12,000 by July 25, 2015.

✝ PRAYER and support. Prayer is the fuel that will allow me to be successful as I follow God's leading in ministry abroad. Without prayer, nothing will happen.

What are the other YASCers up to?
I will not be the only young adult working abroad this year, there are a total of 21 others who will be traveling as missionaries. You can see their personal stories by clicking on their names here:
